Rooted in Culture

We believe the key to breaking the cycle of disease, death, and orphans in Tanzania is by men and women beginning new legacies. At Mavuno Village we want to see boys and girls grow up to have the chance to do just that; they are Tanzania's future and hope!

We seek to maintain the children's home culture in an effort to both honor and transform their culture. Our desire is that while keeping their roots they would also receive the education, training and care that will allow them to grow into men and women who will impact their communities and their country.

Exploring Agriculture

"Mavuno" is the Swahili word for "harvest."  Situated along Lake Victoria, Mavuno Village benefits from the perfect agricultural setting to teach the children about planting and harvesting. We encourage our caregivers to model hard work and sustainability in their efforts to grow, use, and market various crops on the land.

In an economy where nearly everyone engaged in agriculture at some level, it is important for our kids to learn and practice farming. The knowledge and skills they gain will help equip them to be successful entrepreneurs and valuable members of the workforce.

Surrounded By Family

We love to see our kids growing up as part of a family.  Children deemed orphaned or vulnerable by the Tanzania Social Welfare System are placed in homes on the Mavuno Village campus with Tanzanian caregivers who share the burden to help these children.

We believe God created families as the context in which we learn about love and relationships, life and godliness. Through the homes and families they are placed in, the kids are also connected to school, church, and village life.

All Because of Jesus
It is our relationship with our Creator that inspires our work. "For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible...all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."  Colossians 1:16-17

We believe Jesus Christ is the hope of this world, the giver of new life, and the only one with power over our sin and our suffering. We want the children at Mavuno Village to have the opportunity to know Jesus and to experience His forgiveness, kindness and love.
